One critical part of A.J. Building Services (NW) Ltd is to ensure the correct maintenance of any automatic fire detection fitted within your building complies to The British Standards (BS5839-1:2002 ). Under the changes to BS5839-1:2002, on appointment, the service company now has to carry out an initial inspection of the system to ascertain it’s condition and report on any major areas of non-compliance within the code.

System inspection will cover the following areas:

1. Number of call points.
2. Provision of fire detection.
3. Sound pressure levels.
4. Standby power supplies.
5. Fire resistance of cabling.
6. Fault monitoring of circuits.
7. Standards of electrical safety.
8. Incidence of false and unwanted alarms
9. Changes in use, layout or construction
of the protected area that may impact on the effectiveness of the system.

All maintenance is carried out in accordance with strict procedures using the services of a qualified engineer. Our engineers check all fire protection systems to ensure that it’s integrity is safeguarded and it is able to sound an alarm if called upon.

As our client you will receive comprehensive paperwork and results detailing all work carried out. As BS5839-1:2002 has many new requirements our procedures and paperwork have been modified. It is this customer focus and attention to detail which is our companies success.

In addition to scheduled quarterly or bi-annual visits, A.J. Building Services provide continuous monitoring of a BT line linking the alarm system to our nominated alarm receiving centre. We also operate a 24 hour emergency call-out service, 365 days a year for our clients guaranteeing ‘peace of mind’ as most fires start outside working hours when businesses are free from staff.

We aim to attend emergency call-outs within 4 hours and often arrive sooner.
